Another title for Boys U9, this time Chivas Simi Valley Invitationanl Cup
May 5, 2008
Another tournament, and another Championship trophy for this 1st year team. This talented group of Boys U9 (next season U10), under the direction of their coach Victor Pulyakh, are quickly adjusting to the Club Soccer environment. Improving from competition to competition, they finished as the only undefeated team, scored 16 goals, allowed only 5, and won 2 of the 4 games by shutting out their opponent. They opened the tournament with a 6:0 win over Real So Cal. They then defeated Real So Cal Blue by a score of 3:1. After eliminating Santa Barbara Soccer Club 2:0, they defeated Real California FC Black 5:4, and added another championship to their trophy case. Congratulations!
Girls U19 win 2008 State Cup title
April 21, 2008
In their final year together, this Girls U19 team, under their coach Jose Mejia, played outstanding soccer throughout out the whole year. They won their CSL League Division, going undefeated and unscored on, in fact, the goalkeeper Beatriz Ramirez earned 17 shut-outs in a row before giving up a goal. Then, some of them played on the High school teams that were among the area's best, and some were fortunate to win CIF League and Division Championships. But the ultimate streak came when they entered the 2008 State Cup competition. For a team to win it, they had to win 6 games in a row, and that is just what they did. After shutting out North San Diego FC 7:0 and Scripps United 2:0, they did give up a goal and tied the game against CVU Blue 1:1, and advanced into the quarter final round. A huge win there, as they defeated the strong Slammers North 3:1. In the semifinals, they were matched against Albion, team that knows how to score, evident by their 3:0 quarter final win. Our girls scored twice, and the defense held tight for a 2:1 win and the place in the championship game. Coach Jose Mejia has been with this team since the beginning, and as they entered the final game, all he could do is remind the players to just do what they have done for one more game. And, when the whistle blew to end the game, the scoreboard read Valley United 2, Attack Green 1. Players were jumping, parents were hugging each other, and everyone was celebrating this magical moment. These girls, a true U18 team, playing together for the last time just won the Girls U19 State Cup title. Now, some of them will go to College and play soccer there, the remaining few will find some other teams for their final year. They will join the other Valley United teams on the "Wall of Fame", a tribute to the past State Championship teams. Congratulations to manager Dave Stowell, coach Jose Mejia, parents, and players Jennifer Alvarez, Stephanie Cubias, Brianna Edwards, Mariela Gaitan, Gabriella Gavotto, Jaclyn Gersh, Jessica Gonzalez, Jennifer Hager, Nicole Jovel, Joyce Melara, Beatriz Ramirez, Cristina Ramos, Jessika Romero, Hannah Schmid, Taylor Steele, Jillian Stowell, and Monica Vargas for your tremendous accomplishments throughout your careers at Valley United, and best wishes for much success in future!!
Marcelino selected to the ODP program
April 11, 2008
Congratulations to Matt Marcelino, our goalkeeper on the BU12 Silver Elite team. He was named to the '96 ODP group. Matt has been the goalie for the team since its inception when they were BU-9.
More College Coaches interested in our GU16 players
April 7, 2008
Fresh from excellent showing at Nomads, Girls U16 continued to enhance their chances of playing in college by showcasing themselves in front of more college coaches. They competed at the Toyota College Classic in Temecula. And, once again, they did themselves well by playing 3 very good games. Coach Hugh Donald, who ever his 25+ years of coaching youth teams accumulated a long list of players who played in College, prepared the girls well for this event. They overwhelmed a Presidio Premier team, Orange Voetbal by a score of 5:0. Next came the game of the showcase, a match against Idaho State Champions Le Bois United, playing with 12 ODP players. After going down a goal in the first half, our girls came back, and went ahead 3:1. A last minute questionable call gave Le Bois a penalty kick to make the final result 3:2, but the score did not reflect how the game was played. This game had a large presence of College coaches, with many positive comments about our team and a considerable interest in several players. The girls concluded the showcase by another dominating performance, a 5:0 victory over Sage Brush Red from Reno, Nevada.
Girls U16 impress at 2008 Nomads College Showcase
March 31, 2008
Winning the tournament is always nice, but the members of our Girls U16 team knew that he most important thing here was to showcase the talents they have to the college coaches to elevate their already strong interest. And that, they did to perfection! And, they brought home the Finalist trophy as well. It gave them an opportunity to test their skills against out-of-state teams, and they impressed from the beginning as they shut-out SC Del Sol 92 Xtreme White from Arizona and defeated them 4:0. Next game, against Nevada's FCLV Mundial, was a non-stop physical game, but neither team was able to put one in the net, and the game ended in a 0:0 draw. Goals did come in the final bracket game against Utah Force, and when the final whistle blew, the scoreboard read 4:1 Valley United. In the quarter finals they overcame LOSC Dynasty from Oregon 2:1 and moved into semi finals. Waiting for them was New Mexico's Classic FC En Fuego. Our girls took this game by the identical 2:1 score. The championship game matched them against Fullerton Rangers and in this 6th game of the tournament, they were outscored 1:0 and finished as Finalist.

March 22, 2008
In preparation for the National Cup, Boys U15 Red team accepted invitation into the prestigious Dallas Cup tournament. Featuring some of the top teams from over the world, they were placed in a bracket with teams from Netherlands, Mexico, and a local Texas team. In the opening game, they defeated Barcelona SC East USA from Texas 2:1. They followed it with a 3:0 shut-out win over FC Groningen from Netherlands, and finally, they outlasted Mana from Mexico 3:2, and advanced into the quarter finals. Waiting for them was Southern California West Coast FC team, but our Boys disposed of them in a surprisingly easy fashion, by a score of 4:1. Next up was another Southern California team, FC Barcelona in the semi-finals. After the contest ended scoreless, the game went into penalty kicks, and FC Barcelona ended up on the winning side and prevented our Boys from advancing into the championship game.
Boys U9 do it again, this time they capture Copa Real Nike Invitational
January 20, 2008
Almost a month after they won the Rampage tournament, this talented U9 Boys team kicked-off the New Year the same way as they ended the last one, winning a tournament. This time they captured the Real So Cal's 2008 Copa Real Nike Invitational. They won their bracket by winning all 3 games, 3:2 over Real So Cal Blue, 9:1 win against Real So Cal Black, and a 2:0 triumph over Santa Monica United Blue. Then, in the championship game they defeated Santa Barbara Soccer Club 2:1 and it gave them a second tournament championship in a row.
Boys U9 & Girls U10 win Rampage Winter Break Tournament
December 16, 2007
Coming off a very successful 1st year season, Boys U9 competed in the 2007 Rampage Winter Break Tournament and received a great Christmas present in the form of tournament's championship trophy. They captured their bracket with a 2:1 win over Rampage FC Fury, then a 6:0 shut-out win over Eagles, and finally, a 3:1 victory over Apex. These 3 wins earned them a shot at the championship, and they did not disappoint, as they outscored Moorpark Express 5:0 to win this tournament.
Not to be outdone, Girls U10 team, recently crowned 2007 CSL Champions, won the tournament as well. Their run to the title included bracket win of 3:0 against SCV Magic and a 1:1 tie vs Santa Barbara. After a 3:1 semi final win over Real So Cal Blue, they defeated Rampage FC in the championship game to capture the tournament's trophy as well. Congratulations to both young teams on a great 2007 year!
Boys U15 Red secure a trip to Far West Regionals in Hawaii
November 30, 2007
The Far West Regional League offers the absolute league competition as teams vie for the chance to earn spots into the Far West Regionals as part of the US Youth Soccer Championship Series. Teams are competing against the best teams from across the 14 Western States. The winner of the league play, along with the Cal South National Cup Champion, earns a ticket to compete at the Far West Regional Championship which will be held in June 2008, in Hawaii.
Boys U15 Red entered the FWRL, accepting the challenge that in order to win, they had to defeat other good teams, including last season's State and Regional Champions. In their first game, they defeated the 2007 National Cup Champion and Far West Regional's Finalists Force FC by a score of 2:1. One week later, their excellent play continued as they knocked off the 2007 Far West Regional Champion and National Championships Finalist West Coast FC by the same 2:1 margin. After these two matches, they moved into the sole position of 1st place, a spot they never relinquished. Congratulations to coach Norman Mejia and to all players on this team. Have a great trip
Boys U15 are League Cup Finalists, Girls 18 reach semifinals
November 19, 2007
Boys U15 had an outstanding season, and a very busy season. Playing in the Gold Division they battled every weekend the "Best of the Best", and finished with the best offense, scoring 33 goals. They are also participating in the Far West Regional League, which is played at the same time, at time with games during the week. And, they finished CSL with an outstanding run in the League Cup. After easy victories in the bracket games and elimination rounds, they defeated the tough Monarcas in the semifinals, and came very close to capturing the title. They played outstanding and entertaining soccer, and were just edged out in the Championship game 3:2. Congratulations to German and David for an outstanding season.
Our Girls U18 had a great run also. They were playing the League Cup with U19 teams and kept winning and advaincing all the way to semifinals, before being eliminated. Jose Mejia's Girls U19 advance into the quarter finals before being eliminated.
Girls U13 and U15 add to the CSL Championships count
November 19, 2007
Hugh, Laura, and Brian worked very hard to to prepare the Girls U13 players for this League season's challenges by playing a tough pre-season tournament schedule last summer. They knew that if they played well and finished near the top, they could be looking to move up into the Gold next season. And, when the league started, they immediately jumped to the top of their bracket by winning their first 5 games, all by shut-outs. Then, as most teams do, they went through a short mid season slump and lost some games, but refocused, rebounded back, and finished strong with 3 shut-outs wins in a row. They concluded with a fine record of 10 wins against only 4 loses, and their defense was league's best, allowing only 9 goals. They have proven how competitive they are and have earned a promotion to the Gold division next season.
Coach Marty Rackham's first year Girls U15 team had a dream start in club soccer, as they also captured their CSL bracket. Overall, they only lost once throughout the season, and accumulated an outstanding record of 9 wins, 1 loss, and 2 ties. Not only did they win the title, they also had the league's best offense with 32 goals, and the best defense which allowed only 8 goals in 12 games. Congratulations!

November 5, 2007
More championship hardware came Valley United way as Girls U16 and Girls U18 both captured their respective Gold Division brackets, and Girls U19 won the Silver Elite North Division. Girls U16, which is coached by Hugh Donald and Laura Garcia ran away with the title while going undefeated. Their overall outstanding record was 9 win, 0 loses, and 2 ties. They overwhelmed their opponents by a 39:6 margin. They look forward to improve on their their 11 game unbeaten streak as they enter the upcoming League Cup. Their goal was to win Gold and earn a promotion into the Premier Division, and they have done it. Congratulations to all players, Hugh, Laura, Brian Williams, and Rob Kahane for their accomplishment.
Coach Tony Scalercio guided his Girls U18 to the Gold Division championship as well. Only once did they stumble during the season as they finished in 1st place with 7 wins, 1 loss, and 3 ties. They scored 24 goals and allowed only 13
Congratulations to Jose Mejia, Dave Stowell, and the entire group of young ladies on our GU19 team on winning their Coast Soccer League Championship. They had a fantastic season as they not only finished undefeated, but they did not allow a single goal against them. Their overall record was 9 wins, 0 loses, and 1 tie (0:0). They outscored their opposition by a margin of 24:0. They also achived shut-outs in their two League Cup games, giving them a streak of 12 games in a row without allowing a goal against.
Boys U19 finish 2nd in CSL Premier Division
November 3, 2007
Congratulations to our senior team, coached by Jaime Nuno, which concluded another excellent season by finishing in 2nd place. Not only is every game in the Premier bracket extremely tough, since it features truly the "Best of the Best", but adding the long traveling distances every weekend makes this competition even more demanding. This team, which has accomplished so much through out their career, once again displayed just how talented soccer players their members are. They finished with an outstanding overall record of 7-2-2, and undefeated in their last 8 games with 7 wins and 1 tie.
2007 Sun & Surf Tournament title belongs to Girls U13
Boys U17 Red is a semifinalist
August 6 & 13, 2007
They played 6 games in 3 days, did not allow a goal against, and they collected the Champions Trophy. That's how the weekend went for the Girls U13 team. Bracket games saw the Stars win 4:0 over SCV Magic, then 0:0 tie against Harbor FC from Washington, and finally, a 3:0 victory over FC Long Beach. Quarterfinal game was a rematch against SCV Magic, and it is always difficult to beat the team twice in the same tournament. But, the Stars left no doubt that they are the better team as they defeated them in the rematch again, this time by a score of 3:0. Semifinal game went into the pks, and Star's goalkeeper saved the first two kicks, and they were on their way to the Championship game. Another Washington team waited there for them, this time ESA Evergreen. Both teams, although tired, battled through regulation and overtime. With virtually seconds remaining in the second overtime, with everyone already anticipating another pks ending, Stars put one away, and the parents celebrated Sun & Surf Championship. Girls U13 team captured the title by going 5-0-1 and outscoring their opponents 11:0. Great job girls!
Boys U17 Red played some very exciting games. In the first game, they battled back from being down 2:0 to score 3 goals in the last 5 minutes, with the winning goal coming with less then 30 seconds left in the game. They were losing in the second game 1:0 as well, but ended up tying the game 1:1 on a goal scored on the very last play of the game. They won the third 2:0, and followed that with a big 3:1 win over Real So Cal. In the semifinals, an own goal and a defensive mistake cost them a shot at the title, and they lost 2:0.
Championship titles streak reaches 5 for Girls U18 Red
August 5, 2007
Although still far short of the record 14 titles in a row set by the Stars '83 team during the 1995 and 1996, Girls U18 Red moved one title closer by capturing their 5th tournament in a row. Playing in the U19 age bracket, they opened the Mission Viejo Invitational by defeating the home team MVSC Elite 6:0, followed by a wild 4:3 win over LUSC, and finally another shut-out, a 3:0 win over The X-Treme Stars. The Championship game matched them against Slammers North, a very dominating girls club. Stars however, outplayed the Slammers throughout the game and captured the 1st place trophy with a convincing 2:0 victory. Congratulations again!
Girls U18 Red capture 4th tournament
title in a row
July 24, 2007
When you first don't succeed,
try harder next time, and that's what the Girls U18 Red
did at the Carlsbad Cup. In their first game, they dropped a heartbreaking
1:0 decision to San Diego Surf Knowing that they must win the next
two games to have a shot of keeping their tournament championships
streak alive, they defeated Inter 3:0 and North San Diego FC 1:0
to advance into the semifinals. They won semifinals on a forfeit,
and that set up a rematch with Surf for the title. They were determined
to win this rematch. After a scoreless 90 minutes regulations and
20 minutes of overtime periods, Stars defeated San Diego Surf in
the pks 3:2 and captured the 2007 Carlsbad Cup. Great job!!
Boys U15 Red are finalists, Boys
U17 Red and Girls U13 finish as semifinalists
July 16, 2007
Blast U15 Red used this tournament as a final preparation for their upcoming trip to Spain and came so close to winning the 2007 Slammers Futbol Classic. They captured their bracket on the strength of shut out win of 2:0 over Pateadores and a 9:0 romp over Wappinger Utd Cherokees. The shut-out streak continued into the semifinals where they defeated Tuzos Interamerica 3:0. In the championship game they were matched against the current National Cup and Far West Regional Champion, West Coast FC. They battled on even terms, but at the end they were defeated 2:1 and came away with 2nd place.
After a pair of 2:0 wins, Boys U17 Red dropped a close 1:0 decision in the semifinals. Girls U13 had a similar run as they scored 3:0 and 1:0
wins before losing in semifinals as well. After scoreless tie in regulation, they lost the semifinal game in pks.
Two teams going to Spain
July 11, 2007
Last year (pictured in the photo), our then Girls U17 team traveled to Spain to visit the beautiful sites as well as compete against several local teams. The trip was so successful, and the local soccer organization was so impressed with the level of play, that they invited our team back for another visit. However, they decided to organize a tournament centered around our team and they also invited one of our Blast teams to match their skills on the boys side. Competing on the girls side will be Stars U18, coached by Jose Mejia, and representing the boys will be Blast U15 Red team, with Norman Mejia as their coach. We wish them much success and look forward to their report on this incredible opportunity to not only visit Europe, but also play and compete there.
Stars GU18 Red win Pegasus Cup
July 10, 2007
Girls U18 Red team kicked off their new season by capturing the 2007 Pegasus Cup. They won their semifinal game against FC San Diego Pegasus 2:0 to set up a final against TVSA Hawks, which was a rematch of their first bracket game. In that game the two teams battled to a 2:2 tie. This game was no different, as both teams marked each others very closely. At the end, however, the Stars did what they had to do, score one more goal then their opponent, and they captured the Championship with a 2:1 victory over TVSA.
Boys U16 Red win 2007 Southwest Soccer Summer Classic
June 25, 2007
While VUSC News was away in Las Vegas covering the Far West Regionals, our Blast U16 Red team won the 2007 Southwest Soccer Summer Classic Tournament. They defeated team from Murietta in their first game. They lost a heartbreak 2nd game to Poway Vaqueros by a score of 4:3. After trailing 3:0 in the first half, they stormed back and tied the score at 3:3 before giving up an unlucky own goal with about five minutes left. They won their semifinal game in pks, after a 1:1 regulation tie. The championship game against CSC Crusaders also ended in pks. The game ended tied 1:1 at the end of regulations. After two scoreless overtime periods, they went to pks. Our goalie stopped one of the shots, while our team made them all. Winning the championship title was a climax to the Father's Day celebration.
Boys U15 finish as semi-finalists
at 2007 Far West Regionals
June 23, 2007
Blast U15,
in their quest for a 4th straight Far West Regional Champions title
dugged themselves a big hole after the first day of the competition.
They dropped their opening game to Nevada's LV Premier 92 by a score
of 2:0 .
Even though this game started at 7:00 AM, the temperature was already
in low 90 degrees, and perhaps the heat coupled with an early start
was a problem as the Blast looked tired and could not establish
any rhythm. After giving up a goal midway through the first half
on a defensive mistake, they started playing better in the second
half, and just when it looked as they might get an equalizer, they
allowed a counter that resulted in Nevada's 2nd score and it sealed
the victory for them.
Less then 32 hour later, however, their chance to reach quarter
finals improved on Tuesday afternoon. They came out focused in their
2nd game against Alaska's Full Force, and after 20 minutes, they
were leading 3:0. They continued their scoring and when the final
whistle blew, they put in 13 goals against a lone tally by Alaska
for an easy 13:1 victory.
Wednesday turned their quest for 4th title once again into a reality.
Playing the only undefeated team in their bracket, HSC Bulls from
Hawaii, they not only had to win, they had to win by at least 2
goals to have a chance. They dominated from the start and won the
game 3:0. That score gave them a 1st place finish in the bracket
and advanced them into the quarterfinal game on Friday against Washington.
Why do it the easy way if it can be done the hard way? On Friday,
in the quarter final game against Crossfire Premier from Washington,
Blast opened a 1:0 lead about 10 minutes into the game. They increased
it by taking the second half kick-off and scoring again. Having
a seemingly comfortable 2:0 lead, they relaxed and allowed Washington
to make a comeback, score 2 goals and force an overtime. Experience
however paid off as they tallied twice, once in each overtime period,
to take the game 4:2 and move into the Saturday's semifinal game
against the team they defeated to win their 4th straight National
Cup title, FC Barcelona. By the way, the temperature during the
game reached 108°.
The magical ride that started in 2004 when they won their first
Far West Regional title as U12 ended on Saturday in semifinals.
Just 15 seconds into the game against FC Barcelona, they found themselves
trailing 1:0. Barcelona took the opening kick-off, centered the
ball into the box, and surprisingly, the goalkeeper misplayed it
and allowed it to roll into the net. They did fight back, tying
the game 15 minutes later, then taking a 2:1 lead just before the
halftime. Barcelona tied the game in the second half, and with only
about 5 minutes remaining, scored the winning goal for a final 3:2
victory, and their first chance to win Far West Regional title.
Congratulations to Julio, Ricardo, and all players who worked so
hard and accomplished so much during those past four years.
Stars U15 & U17 Red win Eagles
Classic, Stars U12 are finalists
June 11, 2007
Three of our girls teams participated in the 2007 Eagles Classics Tournament, and all of them came home with awards. Girl U15, playing in the U16 age group, won the championship by winning all 4 games, including a huge 2:1 win over the Eagles U16 Premier team. Overall, they outscored their opponents 11:2 to win the tournament. Girls U17 Red had a similar success as they also came away with the tournament title after winning all four of their games. They scored 12 goals and allowed only 2. Our youngest participant in the tournament was our Girls U12 team. After scoring three straight shut-out victories and making it into the championship game, they lost a heartbreak final by a 1:0 score and had to settle for 2nd place. Congratulations to all 3 teams.
